In 1889 a young Welshman called Herbert Evans arrived in Johannesburg and developed Herbert Evans & Co. During his life-time, He introduced the earliest “Ready-Mixed” coloured paints. He also introduced and excellent floor polish and a revolutionary “best Elastic” carriage varnish that could accommodate the expansion and contraction of wood. Innovation, quality and customer service became a hallmark of the company and was the reason for its success. During the 1940’s while Herbert Evans & Co was rapidly expanding, a young businessman named Solly Rudner was helping to build a company called Chrome Chemicals. |

| Chrome Chemicals was a manufacture of Plascon Paint. The brand became so popular that in 1945 a new Company, “ Plascon Paints and Chemical Industries” was formed. By 1969, under Rudners management, Plascon had become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barsab. A merger between these two leaders was inevitable and in 1970, the premier paint company in the country, Plascon Evans was formed.Plascon SA is a company with a history of more that a hundred years . We were the first South African paint company to manufacture ready-mixed products. We continue with this tradition by bringing many new products and improvements to the market. | |
